Who knew I'd find my Holy Grail mascara from a brand best known for sunscreens and skincare for sensitive skin? But Avene Couvrance High Tolerance Mascara ($19 at Shoppers Drug Mart) is just that. It ticks all the boxes when it comes to what I require of a mascara. I first tried this after getting a small sample as a gift with purchase when I bought an Avene SPF moisturizer; I loved it so much I stocked up and bought two full-size tubes while in Paris (Monoprix sale ftw!). In Paris it was available in black and brown, although based on my local Shoppers it seems to only be stocked in black here.
The formula stays put without smudging or flaking all day but removes easily. The banana-shaped applicator features polymer bristles that are slightly longer on one side than the other, allowing me to get at every single lash. The result? Defined, lengthened lashes without getting mascara smudges on my eyelids. Talk about the perfect mascara for Asian eyes and lashes! This mascara won't give you insane volume, but it will create a pretty, natural, fluttery look.
Avene Couvrance High Tolerance Mascara also scores points for being sensitive eyes-friendly. I don't know if it's age or long days spent in front of a computer, but these days my eyes either feel very dry or water excessively. Wearing most conventional mascaras seems to make them feel worse, especially volumizing formulas that heavily coat and clump lashes. By contrast, I can wear this Avene mascara comfortably all day long.
