The air has been super dry in Vancouver lately with the heat cranked up indoors and the wintry air outdoors. Even the most emollient lip colours feel like too much pigment, not enough moisture on my chapped and peeling lips, which is why I've been reaching for tinted lip balms like Dior Addict Lip Glow ($41). Lip Glow is one of my all-time favourite Dior products and they've just launched new shades and finishes, so needless to say, I was pretty excited to get my hands on these PR samples.
For those of you who've never tried it before, Lip Glow goes on sheer and shiny, then reacts to your skin's pH level to become the perfect custom shade of pink. This isn't just a regular tinted lip balm where the colour pigments just sit on your lips and can look a little off if you choose the wrong shade. Instead, Lip Glow gives you a lit-from-within "my lips but better" pink that always looks natural. What's more, as you re-apply throughout the day your lip colour subtly deepens to a more intense hue by evening. Its formula glides on like a dream with a creamy melt-on-the-lips texture thanks to mango seed butter, lasts a long time (2-4 hours per application for me), and has the lightest hint of a vanilla scent. No wonder a Lip Glow is sold every 3 seconds worldwide.
Lip Glow is part lip care, part colour cosmetic, suitable for all skin tones, seasons, and lifestyles. You can wear it daily as a "my lips but better" colour with a flick of black eyeliner or use it as a substitute for regular lip balm. I love traveling with Lip Glow because it's a lip product that's suitable for all occasions —it was all I used when we went to Boston and New England several years ago. I've also been slicking it on before and after barre class because it's so easy to apply and brightens up a bare face while still looking natural. Talk about athleisure beauty.
Dior Addict Lip Glow now comes in 8 shades with 3 different finishes (new matte, classic satin, and new holographic shimmer). Because they're so sheer and colour-adjust to the perfect pink, there's no such thing as choosing the wrong shade. So which one would you choose?
The new holographic finish (pictured above) boasts an iridescence that catches the light better than the classic satiny finish (pictured below).
New 010 Holographic Pink (below) is a light pink with an iridescent finish. It photographs weirdly orange in the tube, but trust me, it's light pink. (See swatches below.)
004 Coral (below) was the shade I used on my trip to Boston and New England. Its balance of pink and orange really brightens up the face for spring.
True to its name, the new 008 Ultra Pink (below) is a deeper, more intense shade of pink than Lip Glow's classic universal pink.
The new 009 Holographic Purple (below) looks intimidatingly lilac and shimmery in the tube, but goes on super-sheer and with less shimmer than Holographic Pink. The effect is that of a light pink with blue undertones, making this a flattering choice for cooler skin tones.
The new 007 Raspberry enhances lips' natural undertones with a light wash of magenta-tinged pink.
I took this swatch photo in the condo with natural light and 12 swipes of each Lip Glow. As you can see, the difference between the shades is minimal, and if it took 12 swipes to build up this much colour you can imagine how sheer they go on. Like I said, you really can't go wrong no matter which shade you choose!
And again in slightly different light. You can see the shine better in this photo.
Are you a Lip Glow addict? Which shade is your fave?
