Despite the fact that Labour Day weekend was unseasonably warm in Vancouver, my thoughts have already turned to fall. September has always been my favourite month of the year: it's the month of my birthday, when Hubs and I started dating eight years ago, and this year we're also celebrating our first wedding anniversary(!) on Sunday. Aside from the personal and sentimental reasons, I just love the richness of the hues in makeup collections at this time of year. Case in point? The Dior Metallics Fall 2017 collection, which according to creative and image director Peter Phillips is a collection of "vibrant metallics and muted mattes." In other words, there's something for everyone whether you're craving drama or subtlety this season. I've got a few samples to show you after the jump!
You can always count on the Dior limited edition collections to have at least one stunner of an eyeshadow palette; the one shown here is Dior 5 Couleurs 677 'Hypnotize' ($72), a quartet of warm golden-brown metallics grounded by a matte deep chestnut. As always, the shadows are fine and super blendable with build-able colour, the metallic effect is sophisticated, and the shades work for a variety of skin tones. The other palette in the collection (not shown here) is 077 'Magnetize', a collection of cool grey metallics. (P.S. If you're one of those girls who always sticks to just one or two shades in an eyeshadow palette, check out these eyeshadow tips from Diorshow national artist Pascal Grand'maison to get inspired!)
The most exciting product in the Fall 2017 Metallics Collection has got to be Dior Metalizer Eyes & Lips Metal Creme Shadow ($32). This creamy, long-wearing, ultra-blendable product delivers concentrated colour and metallic pigments and can be used in a multitude of ways. Wear under or over other eyeshadows to intensify their colour, or alone on lids as a sheer wash of metallic colour. (I did the latter sans primer with 548 'Copper Power', and not only did the colour last without fading, it never creased.) Blend with lip colours to add dimension and breathe new life into matte shades. The creamy texture is easy to work with whether you're applying with a makeup brush or clean fingers, and the product sets quickly and doesn't budge but comes off easily with eye makeup remover. I like the Metalizer much more than the Dior Addict Fluid shadows that were launched as part of Dior fall 2015, the liquid-y texture of which presented a struggle.
Swatched below from top to bottom: 678 'Bronze Tension', 548 'Copper Power', 528 'Platine Fusion'. There are six shades in total, so if Metalizer intrigues you in any way you should definitely stop by your closest Dior beauty counter and check them out.
If it's wrong to be excited about nude lipsticks for fall, I don't want to be right. The past couple of years I've increasingly strayed from deep reds, plums, and fuchsias and opted for tinted lip balms and lighter shades, so I was excited to see the "my lips but better" offerings in Rouge Dior lipstick ($43). Rouge Dior lipsticks have been around a while and they are hands-down one of my favourite lipsticks of all time, but last year they updated the formula and packaging to be even better—check out this post I did in September 2016 for all the details.
Swatched below, from top to bottom: 481 'Hypnotic Matte', a light peach nude that would flatter very fair skin tones; 426 'Sensual Matte', my personal fave as it's closest to my natural lip colour of the three and has enough pink in it to keep it from looking corpse-like on my complexion (always a struggle with nude shades!); and 996 'Eccentric', a nude with a good deal more brown in it that would suit darker skin tones.
A new season doesn't start on this blog until I feature Dior's latest, so with that, consider it officially fall around here! Bring on the crisp air, the changing leaves, the hot drinks, and the cozy boots and sweaters.
