As longtime readers know, I've been trying to green up my routine, whether it's my beauty regimen, household cleaning, or switching to natural deodorant. What I didn't realize was that the super-effective deodorizing spray I was currently using to freshen up coats, sweaters, and scarves between dry-cleanings was already the greener, gentler alternative. Yes, I'm talking about The Laundress Wool & Cashmere Spray.
This clear, cedar-scented spray contains just four ingredients: de-ionized water, alcohol, essential oils, and fragrance. It's free of phosphate, phthalates, dye, and animal by-products. It's anti-microbial, non-toxic, and biodegradable. And oh my goodness, it really works. Whenever I come home with clothes smelling like a smoky pub or a greasy meal, I spray them inside and out until they're ever so slightly damp to the touch and hang them up overnight. In the morning, all the smells are gone, and unlike Febreze, it doesn't leave behind a sickeningly sweet odour of its own or a ton of dubious chemicals.
In fact, it's such a great mostly-natural alternative to Febreze that I've been spraying it on couch cushions and in closets to freshen things up, and on fabrics other than wool and cashmere. The boy also loves using it on his sweaters and coats and has been swiping mine, which explains why even though I bought a replacement bottle just two months ago it's already half empty.
If you have a serious Febreze abuse problem and you're worried about the chemicals you're exposing yourself to, please do yourself a favour and pick up a bottle (or twelve) of The Laundress Wool & Cashmere Spray. (In Vancouver, you can find The Laundress products at Kiss and Makeup.) Your health will thank you.
P.S. The Laundress also makes a Sport Spray that effectively deodorizes the boy's stinky kickboxing gear.
