These days I find myself reaching for sheerer and shinier lip colours that wear like a lip balm as opposed to matte formulas, which is why the newly launched Dior Addict Lacquer Stick ($43) has me so excited. Of Dior's latest lippie collection, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup Peter Philips has said, "For this new generation of lacquers, I wanted the comfort of a hydrating balm without compromising on color intensity and shine." The result is a hybrid formula that boasts high shine, full coverage colour, and comfortable wear. Shall we take a closer look?
Each Dior Addict Lacquer Stick is housed in a sleek black high-shine case. If you turn it in your hand, from certain angles you'll also see that the black part is embedded in a layer of translucent pink. It's unlike anything I've seen before in Dior's lippie packaging. The bullet is also slimmer than that of Dior Addict and Dior Rouge lipsticks, allowing for more precise application.
Formula-wise, this is a hybrid of high-shine lacquer and creamy, moisturizing lipstick that features five shiny nourishing oils and beeswax. Think the shine of a lip gloss without the stickiness, the full-coverage colour pigments of a lipstick without the dryness, and the comfort and emollient qualities of a lip balm minus the goopiness. Dior Addict Lacquer Stick comes in 16 shades inspired by Paris and California. Of those, I was sent 'Tease' (a light pink slightly on the cooler side), 'Turn Me Dior' (a raspberry red), 'Dark Flower' (a deep plum), and 'Rolling' (a peachy nude) to try. They're swatched below for your viewing pleasure.
Dior Addict Lacquer Stick is pretty much the ideal spring and summer lipstick—effortless and elegant from morning to evening. The high shine makes it look pitch-perfect for morning brunch or the office—never overdone—while the colour subtly accents lips and is enough to take you into warm evenings. It applies straight out of the bullet with precision and ease, doesn't feather, and feels great on the lips from day to night. As the moisturizing ingredients in the formula are absorbed into the lips and the shininess gradually fades, the colour pigments sit on the lips and create a lovely lip stain effect that lasts a surprisingly long time. You're going to want to keep this in your purse 24/7—I know that's what I'll be doing with Dior Addict Lacquer Stick in 'Tease'!
