Any product that makes doing your makeup as easy as drawing on your face is a winner in my books, which is why I adore the new L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Matte and La Lacque Lipcolour Sticks. If you haven't been acquainted with these winsome drugstore lip crayons yet, consider this your introduction!
Each twist-up, non-sharpening lip crayon is about the size of a not-too-thin, not-too-chubby pen with a slightly pointed tip that makes precisely lining and filling lips a breeze. Aside from user friendliness, the form factor is super-portable and convenient. Switching up your shade when the mood strikes is as easy as slipping a few more lip pencils in your purse.
There are eight shades in total (five matte, three glossy) and if the ones I received for review are any indication, they're gorgeous and flattering and you'll want every one of them. (Good thing they're drugstore lippies that won't break the bank!) Swatched below: Le Matte 100 'Matte for Me' (a bright, matte, statement fuchsia); La Lacque 201 'Lacque-y Charm' (a glossy pinky-brown great for everyday day-to-night wear); Le Matte 106 'Mad for Matte' (a matte cherry red); and La Lacque 207 'Lacque'y You' (a glossy mauve pink).
L'Oreal's website claims they're enriched with argan oil for hydration and antioxidant vitamin protection. In my experience, I found La Lacque to be much more moisturizing and comfortable for all day wear; what's more, the glossy pinkish shades are really pretty for the office and transition to evening seamlessly. Le Matte delivers long-lasting, pigmented matte colour and feels velvety upon initial application; however, if you're prone to super-dry lips like I am, it can feel a bit drying without a mid-day dab of clear lip balm.
Other tips for making the most out of Le Matte and La Lacque:
- Line with the pointed tip and fill with the side of the crayon for quicker application; plus, this technique preserves the fineness of the tip.
- If the skin around your mouth is dehyrated, the hydrating oils in the lip colour will be absorbed and "pulled" into the skin around the lips, resulting in colour feathering as the day goes on. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize, and use a clear lip liner to prevent bleeding and help keep that precise lines on the matte lips.
Which do you prefer, Le Matte or La Lacque?
