The new Revlon ColorStay 2-in-1 Compact Makeup & Concealer ($19.99 at London Drugs) deserves the title of Drugstore Delight for many reasons: long-lasting, build-able demi-matte coverage available in 12 shades; the ease of having foundation and concealer in one portable product; an affordable price tag (made doubly so because it's a concealer and a foundation).
If you look closely at the concealer and makeup shades, you'll notice that the concealer in the mini pot is slightly lighter than the foundation instead of being a perfect match. I've always opted for concealers that match my skin and makeup as closely as possible, so I was pleasantly surprised at how this one applied. The lighter shade seemed twice as effective at camouflaging blemishes right from the first layer. Because the concealer is quite thick and opaque and comes in such a small pot, I've been dabbing clean fingertips in it and applying it where necessary, letting the warmth of my fingers soften it as I gently pat and blend it on undereye circles and blemishes.
The topmost plastic ring/concealer pot flips up so you can access the foundation layer underneath.
And beneath that, there's an aerated compartment for the triangular application sponge as well as a mirror. Between the foundation's relatively thick consistency and the little holes in the black sponge, you may notice drag lines in your foundation and distinct light/dark patches between the makeup and concealer if you don't blend well. Proper blending solves all.
I've been using this compact the past couple of weeks when getting ready to go out after Bar Method classes. Instead of toting separate products and brushes or sponges, everything I need to create an even-toned complexion is literally right at my fingertips, thereby saving me room in my makeup bag and gym kit. What's more, the formula provides more coverage than a BB cream but is just as easy to use because of the form factor. The makeup lasts and looks good even hours later. What else can I say? This is just a solid foundation/concealer combo, delightful and convenient to use.
I debated whether to feature the Revlon ColorStay 2-in-1 Compact as a Drugstore Delight or a Lazy Girl Approved pick, but in the end the former won out. The fact that such a terrific product also happens to be budget-friendly is just icing on the cake.
P.S. For those who happened to watch the Oscars, this is also the same foundation used on Revlon ambassador Olivia Wilde.
