This skincare review was six months in the making. Skincare reviews always take a long time because I want to thoroughly test the product's effectiveness, and in this case, I stopped using Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Serum briefly to dabble with other samples. But I ultimately returned to the serum and finished it, and I have to admit, I'm feeling a little sad about moving on to others. For a beauty blogger with all sorts of skincare at her disposal, that empty tube really says something.
Dermalogica's Multivitamin Power Serum is part of the AGE smart line and contains micro-encapsulated forms of vitamins A, C, and E, which purportedly makes the vitamins easier for skin to absorb. Vitamin A gently exfoliates, while vitamin C brightens and provides anti-oxidant protection and vitamin E moisturizes. The result: fewer visible lines and dark spots and fewer signs of aging. The vitamin A in the formula is supposed to be so mild you can use Multivitamin Power Serum under your eyes to combat fine lines; however, it'll still make your skin photo-sensitive so sunscreen is a must.
In my months of on-and-off testing, I found that my skin's tone and texture visibly improved while using Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Serum. The effect wasn't as dramatic as other online reviews have claimed because my skin is fairly good to begin with, but I did notice less redness, fewer bumps and congested pores, and a slight lightening effect on hyperpigmentation and acne scars. If I slacked on exfoliating in any given week, my skin wasn't quite so dry and flaky as before. Although it can be used morning or night, I only used the serum at night after cleansing and before moisturizier because of photo-sensitivity concerns.
Other observations:
- There isn't a lot of product in the needle-nose tube, but a little Multivitamin Power Serum can go a long way and the needle-nose ensures you only dispense what you need.
- The texture is velvety and quick-absorbing, making it easy to layer this serum under other serums and lotions. The formula does seem to get runny and start to separate into oil and velvety serum after a while though. When that happened, I'd keep the cap on and smush the product around in the tube to re-mix it.
- Like all of Dermalogica's products, it smells amazing thanks to the high concentration of natural active ingredients in the formula—not because of added fragrance.
