The last time I reviewed a new Revlon lip product, I wrote: "When budgets are tight, a drugstore lipstick can be just the cheap and cheerful pick-me-up one needs, and in this category, few surpass Revlon for their innovative formulas, wallet-friendly prices, and flattering shades." It may be a new year and a new Revlon lippie, but the same sentiment applies. Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor ($11.49 at London Drugs) boasts a wax-free, gel-based formula and loads of colour pigment like its predecessor Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick, but with a moisturizing, velvety feel.
Application klutzes will appreciate the liquid lipstick form factor. There's no awkwardly shaped bullet to contend with and the sponge applicator—tapered at the end, broad and flat through the middle—lets a girl line and fill lips with the utmost precision in seconds. The almond-shaped frosted plastic tube feels surprisingly sturdy and upscale for drugstore packaging.
The three colours I was sent for review are: 'Passion' (a vampy red); 'Temptation' (my favourite sort of statement fuchsia!); and 'Seduction' (a surprisingly flattering nude). The shades are true to colour and pigmented with a slight sheen (the sheen disappears once the lip color sets or you blot with a tissue). After that, it's budge-proof, feather-proof matte colour for hours on end.
As you can tell from my big grin (I'm wearing 'Passion' below), I really, really adore Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor. My one gripe with its predecessor Ultra HD Lipstick was the fact that it didn't moisturize. Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor, on the other hand, boasts all the benefits of its predecessor (long wear, good pigment, budge-proof colour, great shades), and it's moisturizing. Unless I'm going to a party, I avoid wearing matte lipsticks in the depths of winter because my lips are so parched already and most matte formulas can be drying, but HD Matte Lipcolor goes on with plenty of slip and feels velvety and comfortable in a way you'd expect from much more luxe lippies. It truly deserves the "Drugstore Delight" title.

Love that color on you! I'm glad to hear that the color becomes matte after a while. i think I saw Jaclyn Hill use the super dark color and she said it never really matte-tified. Even though I'm trying to move towards all-natural/less-chemical makeup, it's products like these that tempt me every time I go to the drug store - so affordable and fun! You can't beat the feel of buying a new lipstick!
ReplyDeleteInteresting! For me it mattifies as the colour sets, or I help the process along by blotting off excess with a tissue.
DeleteFor an all-natural alternative, have you had a chance to try ILIA yet? I know you were shopping around for a new lipstick and considering it (or was it Lar?).
