Oh Stila, you really know how to celebrate! Just in time for the holiday 2014 season and their 20th anniversary, Stila cosmetics has launched some truly lovely limited editions. From a collaboration with Bauble Bar to gorgeous eyeshadow palettes dressed in metallics, here are the items sure to shoot to the top of beauty lovers' wishlists (or tempt you to keep them for yourself!).
Holiday 2014 collaboration with Bauble Bar
"For celebrating 20 memorable holiday seasons with Stila, let us shower you in jewels." Sounds good to me, Santa Stila. The Stila x Bauble Bar gift sets (starting at $29) include an on-trend cuff bracelet, a $10 Bauble Bar gift card, and some of Stila's all-time faves. The gift set I was sent for editorial review—which contains Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner (one of the best I've ever tried), Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner, and Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in a little black studded crossbody bag—sadly doesn't seem to be available online. But they do have gift sets showcasing the best of 'Kitten' (their cult fave, universally flattering, shimmery pink shade), best of black, sparkling rose, NYE glam, and radiant beauty. All gift sets come packaged in cute pouches that double as glitzy NYE-ready clutches.
20th anniversary collection
Confession: Despite not wearing eyeshadow very often, I have a Gollum-esque tendency to hoard limited edition eyeshadow palettes. Every once in a while I might take out my pretties, admire the case and colours and embossed product, and put them away. It's weird, but hey, Stila's new 20th anniversary collection includes just the sort of eyeshadow palettes that aid and abet such dysfunctional behaviour. The 12-shade eyeshadow palettes—which come in yellow and rose gold, silver, and copper cases—each celebrate a different facet of inner beauty. Let's take a closer look at two of them.
The 'Mind' palette ($49) features a range of neutral, grey, earthy, and mauve-toned matte shades, and is the sort of palette that will prove to be a makeup bag workhorse because it can do so many day-to-night looks. Notice the inspirational Einstein quote on the plastic overlay. The names of the shades themselves—like 'Wit', 'Observation', 'Creativity', and 'Intellect'—are an extension of the mind motif.
If you're used to hyper-pigmented eyeshadow formulas that deliver vivid colour with a single swipe of your finger, Stila's eyeshadow formula may surprise you. The colour is uneven and somewhat anemic when swatched on bare skin with a fingertip. You definitely need primer and proper brushes to get vivid colour payoff. The pigments are buildable, blendable, and ultra-fine.
In contrast to the conservative mood of 'Mind', the 'Body' palette ($49) is all about fun with its assortment of shimmer and satin finish shades in jewel-toned hues. Best suited to girls with cool undertones.

Rounding out the Magnificent Metals collection: Mile High Lashes Mascara ($25), which I have yet to try because my lash extensions are still in, but it promises to deliver lift, length, and volume; and Magnificent Metals lip gloss ($23), a semi-sheer, shimmer-infused gloss that can be worn alone or layered over other lip colours. Both are fine, but really, it's all about the gorgeous eyeshadow palettes.
Will you be picking up any of Stila's latest launches for yourself or someone on your list?
