Remember how excited I was to hear that Peter Philips was joining Dior beauty as creative director? Well, I think my excitement is justified in light of these just-released backstage beauty photos from the 2015 cruise collection. File this look under "wearable, elegant, pretty, with a hint of sleek modernity."
The overall vision
Here's what makeup maestro Philips had to say about the look: "I wanted to create makeup that was both light and sophisticated, in keeping with the Cruise spirit, fluid clothing and the summery atmosphere. The common theme in this collection is in fact the color black, which links all the looks together. Raf Simons and I wanted the makeup to be graphic and elegant, to accentuate both the beauty of the silhouettes, and this omnipresent black color."
All about the eyes
The star of the show is those graceful arcs of black liner, which define and highlight eyes with precision. Philips used Dior It-Line Eye-Liner (launching summer 2014) straight across the upper eyelid and on the outer half of the lower eyelid. The finishing touches: some shading using the Bar 5 Couleurs eyeshadow palette (fall 2014); luscious lashes using Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara or Dior Addict It-Lash Mascara (summer 2014); and defined but not overly heavy brows courtesy of Diorskin Powder Eyebrow Pencil.
Flawless skin
"I wanted to create the illusion of a perfect complexion that is both matte and radiant." Diorskin Star foundation and Diorblush Vibrant Colour Powder in 'My Rose' do the trick.
Neutral lips and nails
With such a bold eye look, Philips downplayed lips and nails with soft pink. He used a beige lip colour followed by Rouge Dior in 'Trompe-l'Oeil', and Dior Vernis in 'Muguet'.
Is this a look you'd try? Personally, I'd like to test-drive this with Dior's It-Line Eye-Liner and see how it stays put compared to my all-time liquid liner faves.
