One of the bright sides of closet purges is rediscovering hidden gems and finding out they go very well with new favourites. I bought this J. Crew pencil skirt two years ago and wore it to death in early 2012, but then it sat neglected in my dresser, its position as Favourite Skirt usurped by more recent acquisitions. Luckily, it's been resurrected just in time to pay homage to Pantone's colour of the year, Radiant Orchid.
Back then I would've played up the primness of this pencil skirt, but these days, I like to counterbalance its strict lines with more laid-back items. A relaxed forest green sweater, an oversize metallic handbag (great for 9-to-5 and brightening up dreary winter outerwear), and ankle booties fit the bill very nicely. For a typical workday, I'd wear this exact outfit with my trusty Madewell booties. However, since you're probably sick of seeing them in outfit posts, I swapped them for the texturized Margiela ones.
Love love love the texture in the Margiela booties. And I'm still drooling over that Shirley bag! Great look Lisa! :)

DeleteAh, that's great that you can pull out a past fashion item and now it's oh, so current .. ! Now that's the way to work your wardrobe ;-)
