Days on end of glorious, summery weather can make Vancouverites kind of giddy. Like, really giddy. It's easy to forget how sorry and soggy we were only a few weeks ago when the cherry trees are in bloom, the sun sets a little later each evening and twilight lasts a little longer, and a pair of sunglasses--not an umbrella!--becomes the accessory of choice.
All this sunshine is making me crave easy, low-maintenance living. Instead of elaborate meals, I make simple salads with avocado for lunch and dinner. Evening yoga classes trump going out. And instead of artful layers and carefully considered outfits, I've been on a "back to basics" kick lately, wearing basics (like a white blouse and nude wedges) with one statement piece (like a pair of polka dot trousers) and a few accessories.
Of course, the key to making this approach work is having versatile basics like this Anine Bing blouse. Soft to the touch and drapey, I'm looking forward to wearing it untucked with skinny trousers, belted over tailored shorts, tucked into pencil skirts--the options are endless.
As the weather warms up, do you find your style getting simpler? Or do your outfits become more elaborate?
Absolutely LOVE those cat-eye sunnies! They instantly make an outfit more chic! And you're right, that Anine Bing blouse is really versatile! It pulls your whole look together :)

Thanks! I was hooked on these cat-eye sunnies last summer; glad to have an excuse to pull them out again!
DeleteThe blouse is incredible. If you need quality basics with a slight twist, definitely check out Anine Bing.
I love those capris! I had been eyeing them at JCrew but they just didn't work on my body.
ReplyDeleteWarm weather dressing is agonizing for me!! I live in my layers and boots-the only skirts I have are pencil skirts for work and I only own a couple of sleeveless tops. On recent warm days I've been sticking with a uniform of some funkier jeans (either purple or an ombre Cheap Monday pair) and a slouchy tee.
I know what you mean--one day I looked at my wardrobe and realized half my skirts were pencil skirts. They dress down pretty well with tees or chambray though!
DeleteI definitely agree with you!
ReplyDeleteIt's so much easier to create a beautiful outfit like this in the summer with one statement piece and some basics!
Although the weather here in Ireland begs to differ...
Love it!

I think this might very well be my sartorial philosophy for the rest of the summer.
DeleteHope the Irish weather improves soon!

ReplyDeleteOoh calling this look Kate Spade-esque is an incredible compliment. Thank you!
