Standing Armed Spring/Summer 2012

Standing Armed designer Lindsay Walsh with models wearing her designs

The scene: the modernist Waterfall Building designed by world-renowned architect Arthur Erickson, just off of Granville Island on an Indian summer evening. The event: the media presentation for Standing Armed, a fledgling label by Ryerson alumnus Lindsay Walsh. Standing Armed debuted with a capsule collection for the fall/winter 2011 season, and it's returning with a full collection for spring/summer 2012.

Guests gathered in the light-filled gallery to converse, mingle and admire Standing Armed's sophomore collection, which, according to Walsh, is inspired by Morocco and gypsy culture. Bold colours, prints and textures combined with modern cuts for clothes that were on-trend and wearable. The devil's in the details, and there were plenty of details to love here: white crochet lace, luxurious silks, bright coral and chartreuse, sophisticated tan-and-black prints, summery maxi skirts with corded and tasseled drawstrings.

Aside from checking out an emerging designer, it was a pleasure seeing new and familiar faces.

  1. I love the waterfall building - what a great place for a show.

Looks like there's some cute pieces in the collection I'd definitely be interested in but spring/summer2012 seems so far away with the gloomy weather we've been having.

  2. I was pleasantly surprised by the collection (nothing against Standing Armed, I just set my Vancouver fashion hopes very low). It's very wearable and well-made. I like the long printed skirt.

  3. I actually have some of the lace similar to the cut-out cotton lace on one of the models. The border is exactly the same. It is Swiss cotton and truly gorg on the model in the shift. Glad you were able to check out the new designers. I feel the work of the young and emerging is still pure enough to be uncorrupted by mass production

  4. The cotton lace is gorgeous--I have some and like how the designer fabricated it . . .
