Today's Outfit: Heading Into Holiday Season

  • Necklace (H&M)
  • Lace top and shorts (CiCi)
  • Cardigan (Banana Republic)
  • Cami (Zara)
  • Tights (Dynamite)
  • Shoes (American Apparel)

These days I find myself attending more and more events that take place right after work--holiday previews, parties, and so on. Going straight from work to an event that requires a dressier outfit isn't exactly a novel situation, and as we head into the holiday season, it's bound to happen more frequently. This got me thinking about ways to make your work outfit look slightly dressier for an evening out. Here's one of my favourite strategies: Put on a dramatic statement necklace and some bold lipstick. (In fact, I like this strategy so much I deployed it in a previous post, albeit using slightly different pieces.)

Every woman has a few of these tricks up her sleeve, I'm sure. The emergency heels stashed under her desk. A little pouch filled with costume jewelry and cocktail rings stuffed into her work tote. What are your secrets for day-to-night dressing during the holidays?

  2. Day to night? i kinda like that, as it gives me yet another excuse to play dress-up. Bolder makeup, shinier accessories and higher heels! And smaller bag too

  3. Ooo I love this outfit, Lisa (especially the texture of your shirt with the necklace), and it works perfectly from day to night. I feel fairly lazy about changing more than once a day. If I have an event in the evening, I usually just amp up my make-up and wear something a little more sparkly during the day. I can get away with that in my office because it's so relaxed about its dress code. I'm sure Cath has great tips. I'll make sure she sees this post ;)

  5. That's a really cute outfit, I love the detailing on the top and the buttons on the short. I love the idea of day-to-night outfits btw, it's really handy for long days with no time to head home first. Keep them coming :)

  6. My day to night is always HEELS. Once I went to a party filled with supermodels (Tricia Helfer, Heather Marks..) and I wowed never to go anywhere where there might be tall skinny people in flats. LOL.

  7. I like the lace top on you, especially with that necklace!

I don't have any day-to-night holiday party tricks, but I think it's good to create a few!

See you at the pre-sale! Thanks to Chloe at thisgirlscity.com, I'll be there :)

  13. This is such a great post-work outfit! I agree about the statement necklace or bold lip colour to dress up a work outfit when you're off to an event and don't have time to change. The lace top is lovely and that necklace is gorgeous! You def should rock your Uniqlo faux fur scarf more often, I've only seen it in your haul video!
