Product Review

I almost contemplated not writing a review for Korres Abyssinia Oil Volumizing Mascara ($20 for full size; mine was the sample tube included in the Sephora mascara sampler). A mascara that does so little is really a non-mascara, and as such deserves a non-review. The formula contains Abyssinia oil, a substance that promises to condition and, along with the "revolutionary microbristle brush," give you voluminous lashes. Imagine my disappointment when after applying multiple coats my lashes looked like there was nothing on them. Sure, the brush makes application virtually clump-free, but it really doesn't do much of anything. No length, no volume, no "wow" effect. It looked as if I had nothing on my lashes. I'm glad I got to try this mascara out without paying the price for the full-size product--imagine how choked I'd be to try something only to discover that for all the good it did I might as well not have bought it at all!
That being said, I really don't understand the rave reviews for this mascara on the Sephora website. Have you tried it? Does it work for you?

Hm.... you just save me some money.... I am better off with drug store brand uh... : )
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I'm a bit surprised. I haven't tried this one but I've been using Korres Rice Bran mascara for years now. I love it and it does give a full lash effect without being cake-y. I'm curious to see if you'd like it!
ReplyDeleteGood to know -- I'll stay far away.

I tend to stick to drug store brands when it comes to mascara. I honestly never saw a huge difference in splurging on top brands, even if they are very hyped, although I'm assuming the Korres may not be as effective, because they rely heavily on natural ingredients?
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, I do love Korres products in general, but have never tried any of their eye makeup products. I'm a huge fan of their body, hair and skin care range range though.
definitely good to know, i hate when reviews lead you wrong! i recently ordered an item online and every review said it fit small and to order a size up, so I did, and alas.. it's huge. but the best best best mascara for real is cover girl lash blast. i bought dior show for years, which is also awesome but save your money! cover girl for the win.

I haven't tried it, but I notice mascaras are definitely something where everyone's opinions are different.
ReplyDeleteWell that's lame! Seems like that Sephora sample pack has saved you money in that you didn't have to splurge on buying duds, but was also bad for giving you these duds in the first place :(
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad that the mascara was such a dud, but like you said, at least you didn't pay for a whole tube!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried the Korres brand mascara. I've been using Bare Escentuals' Flawless Definition Mascara, and once I got used to the teeny bristles on the brush, it was really easy to apply enough to give me vibrant eyes without getting clumpy, cakey lashes.
I appreciate your reviews on the various mascaras - I have not been able to find a really good mascara to fix these short, thin lashes of mine.
ReplyDeleteYou've saved me time and money, so this is one less mascara to try! Thank you!
I have this mascara and the Rice Bran mascara, and while I like both, I prefer the Rice Bran version. I like to use both together, as I have found the brush in the Abyssinia Oil mascara to be effective at reaching the shorter eyelashes in the corners of my eyes. It is worth noting that the Abyssinia Oil mascara is vegan - as it contains no beeswax.
