Banana Republic Classic Trench

Record-breaking mild temperatures in January mean that these days Vancouverites can expect rain rather than snow, a damp chill rather than a deep freeze. No wonder my fancy has turned from wool coats to lightweight trenchcoats. While Burberry remains the sterling epitome of the classic trench, I think Banana Republic's version ($198) comes pretty darn close to channelling the appeal of its more expensive British counterpart. The belted waist, double-breasted styling, and 3/4 length make this coat a polished topper for skirts, dresses, or jeans and guarantee that this trench will be a perennial favourite for many years to come. Pair this trench with a thin cashmere cardigan for warmth and a quirky, colourful umbrella and you're good to go. With rainy days approaching us, can sunny spring skies be far behind?
Is it time to put away the winter garb and pull out the lightweight jackets and trenches in your region yet? Are you a fan of trenchcoats for spring?

Envious you seem to have milder temps! I'm so ready for Spring at this point. I think a classic trench is definitely a wardrobe staple. This one is perfect. I have a trench, but generally tend to grab leather jackets instead.
ReplyDeleteunfortunetly it has recently fallen to -18 here. currently I think it's 8 outside... so no, spring is still FAAAR away :( But it's coming!!!
ReplyDeleteTrench coats are just love, love, love! You can't go wrong with a piece like that on a cold day.
ReplyDeleteI wore my trench every day thru January! It's been so nice I love it.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! I love trench coats passionately. Though mine is a little quirkier - ankle-length and with giant shoulder pads. ;)
ReplyDeletecute trench!! it's definitely not warm enough for me to wear this. i'm still freezing in my woll coats. >.<
ReplyDeleteyes! i can't believe it's been as mild as it has been and i'm loving it. i'm crazy about the burberry trenches and this one you've picked is definitely a classic. I can't wait to wear my khaki trench from Juicy couture soon. I love it too b/c of all the girly details.
ReplyDeleteI never wear trenches, but my mom always does and she looks FAB. The Banana one is awesome. I am more of a moto jacket girl...but it also doesn't get freezing here so yeah...I'm rambling.
ReplyDeleteI covet Burberry trenches. One day!
I wish! It's freezing here in Kansas and we're expecting more snow this week. ugh! I am so over it! I do love the BR coat. It's a classic.
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous. A great alternative to Burberry.
ReplyDeleteIt's so strange that our area seems to be the only place in the continent with mild temperatures this winter! (Not that I'm complaining - last winter was more than enough snow to last me a while.)
ReplyDeleteI love the detail on that trench and agree that it looks way more "expensive" than its actual cost.
This is a nice-looking coat. My friends have one in tan and one in blue. They both love it!
ReplyDeleteI've been holding out on buying a Burberry trench for years, but this Banana Republic looks like perfection. Who needs the novacheck when this baby is under $200? great find lisa!
ReplyDeleteLove that trench!
ReplyDeleteBanana Republic does a fantastic job with its outerwear. I've been itching for one of their trenches for awhile now, but haven't purchased one yet (for whatever reason). This might be the one.
ReplyDeleteWell, the name of this item says it all! I'm a huge fan of trench coats so I cannot wait until it's warm enough to pull them out of hibernation.
ReplyDeletei would love to get a short trench for spring...this is a great option!
