Last Thursday, I had the privilege of attending Obakki's spring preview event at their flagship store. A fashion show at a hip Gastown boutique--what better place to wear my Francis wool applique dress for the first time? You can't see it in the photo, but this frock has incredible materials and workmanship. It's composed of two sheer silk layers; each diamond in the all-over argyle pattern is a stitched-on applique, and the lines of red running throughout are skeins of scarlet silk stitched in. Wearing this dress all day long at work made me so happy. At the fashion show, though, I stuck out like a bright argyle beacon in a sea of black and gray. I didn't mind; after all, it's better to stand out than to blend in, right?
A big thank-you to my friend and guest for the night, Megan, for snapping this photo!

ReplyDeleteGirl, love that argyle dress...and next time, show us the Chanel bag. I love Chanel, if only I can afford them, without feeling like I spent a whole month's pay or deprived my daughter food or something...hahaha!!

ReplyDelete& loved your halloween post below; i think i need to go see zombieland!
Oh Lisa, you wear it WELL! And I can see some of the detail at the hem - I had no idea this was a two-layer dress. Gorgeous.

ReplyDeletei just love the colours in this dress, so pretty
ReplyDeleteIt's ALWAYS better to stand out. You look superb! And my word verification is "dress"!
ReplyDeleteI can see the sheerness on the bottom of the dress. Very cute dress. And yes, it's always better stick out than blend in :O)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress! I love the argyle print, but I think what makes this unique is the fact that it's not argyle on wool or cashmere, but on a more delicate fabric. Oh, and I completely agree about standing out from time to time. It's so cliche to be wearing all-black at a fashion even anyway!
ReplyDeletelove that dress!! so cute and so you!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Anyone who likes the dress can buy it here! http://francisnewyork.com/blog/2009/11/buy-it-now-argyle-applique-shift-dress/
ReplyDeleteThe infamous Francis dress! I'm guessing this was the dress that you intended to wear that the Fine Finds Party? It's gorgeous, although I wish I could've seen it in person to see all the intricate details that you were describing in your post!
ReplyDeleteyou'll def have to wear it out again when I see you :)
You look great!!! I thought about buying that dress for fall/winter, but I'm not too confident with sleeveless looks! :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely better to stand out :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, you look so sweet! And hurrah for standing out in a sea of black; I always try to wear colors when I'm going to be around "chic" fashion/city people...
