Stylish Thought Of The Day

Style and comfort need not be mutually exclusive. Last week, a coworker reminded me of this when she showed up to a morning meeting looking oh so chic in a sweater dress, tights, low-heeled boots, and matching statement earrings and necklace. When I complimented her, she enthused, "This is the most comfortable outfit ever! Everybody this morning has been telling me I look so good, but it feels like I'm at home in my pajamas. And it was the easiest thing to just slip on a dress instead of putting on a top and jeans." Then she grinned and said, "I think I might wear this every day this winter."

When you think about this, it makes sense. Sweater dresses and tights are stretchy and warm, whereas even the most comfortable jeans can feel constricting if you've had a big lunch or you're sitting at your desk for long periods of time. The next time I feel the urge to dress down, I think I might take my cue from my coworker and don a sweater dress/tights/boots ensemble.

  1. SO TRUE. I wore leggings and a tunic with my super comfy Tsubo boots this weekend and felt sinfully comfy ... but didn't look remotely scruffy. And sweater dresses are a wintertime comfort staple for me. No need to throw on sweats and Uggs to feel blissful!

  3. I've always thought a great dress can be as comfortable as sweats--living in the northwest, it irks me that wearing a dress tends to prompt people to wonder why so dressed up when it's so comfortable!

  6. That combination sounds lovely. It even gives me the warm fuzzies just thinking about it. Unfortunately I can't wear leggings to work (it would be nice thought!) and tights annoy me haha even though I have to wear them, so I'd have to think of an alternative to wear w/a sweater dress. Great post though, you make a good point that style shouldn't compromise comfort.

Hope you had a good weekend at the boy's ;)

  7. I agree! I'm always throwing on tights/leggings + a tunic or an oversized sweater + flat boots nowdays because I just want to be comfortable in the office. Any suggestions on pretty but affordable sweater dresses in Vancouver?

  15. I totally agree - at least when it comes to clothes. I love all things knited and jersey. However, when it comes to shoes the higher the heel, the better - and the more uncomfortable!

  17. Yes, very true!
I don't understand people that say being stylish is uncomfortable. I'm always stylish- and ALWAYs comfortable too. One naturally goes with the other. Even if I wear heels , I choose a comfortable pair. Great post Lisa!
