My Holy Grail Boots, Finally
My fall 2009 shopping list only consisted of a few things: the Coach satchel, the Chanel clutch, my skirt and dress from Francis, new tights and leggings, and a new pair of boots. While most of these items were easy to find, the boots proved to be the most difficult by far. I wanted a flat pair of simple black leather boots with a good tread for snow and ice. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. The weatherproof boots I saw were clunky, fur-trimmed, or too synthetic-looking, while all the fashionable flat leather boots I liked had smooth treads that would be serviceable in the rain but deadly once the snowy season starts. In short, I wanted something a little more "urban chic" and a little less "sporty Inuit." To add another challenge to the search, I needed a pair that would zip up over muscular calves (I blame you, dance!) and accommodate skinny jeans.
Well, leave it to a Canadian company to come up with the exact product I was looking for. When I popped into Town Shoes last Friday for a quick browse, I stumbled upon the 'Vitiana' boots in black by Blondo Canada. These boots boast treated waterproof leather that will stand up to rain, snow, and salt stains. The interior is lined with a plush velour and a cushiony insole to keep my feet and legs dry and comfortable. I also love the sturdy waffle tread and the hidden elastic at the top of the boot. If you've been looking for a similar sort of boot, I highly recommend checking these out.
What's the holy grail item on your fall shopping wishlist, the one you can't seem to find anywhere?

Beautiful boots! I really want a pair of knee-high brushed-velvet/ faux suede boots, but I just can't find what I'm looking for at a price which doesn't endanger my life as I know it.
ReplyDeletecongrats on finding your HG boot! 'tis a great feeling isn't it? and those boot are an awesome find especially with the type of winter weather we tend to get here in Vancouver. not sure what my HG would be, it's always some pair of shoes though I'm sure haha
ReplyDeleteI love these boots!!! Best feature for me: they're not stilettos! I'm afraid high heels are not going to hold up my pregnant belly :) Perhaps you can give me some tips on how to look cute through pregnancy? I feel a bit 'haggard' and 'uncool' with my growing belly. How do all the movie stars manage to look so glamourous?
ReplyDeletePractical and stylish...Holy Grail indeed.
ReplyDeleteI have been searching forever for the perfect day handbag that isn't killer pricey!
cool! yea i've been looking for fashionable looking rainboots. at least something that doesn't look like it's plastic and rubbery... something that's a bit more dressy and have had the seame problem.
ReplyDeletehow much did you get your winter boots for?
congrats lisa! the perfect flat black riding boots! so satisfying right? I made the mistake last year of buying my "i'm going to live in these all season" moto boots with a VERY slippery sole.Lets just say my bottom was black and blue by the time the snow melted.

ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for you! I know exactly how you feel! I think boots are the hardest thing to find ! It took me so long last year .... and here in NY - well there are too many to choose from!
ReplyDeleteJen, I'd feel uncomfortable giving advice on looking chic while pregnant because I've never been pregnant myself. Check out manila fashion observer (http://manilafashionobserver.blogspot.com) and read some of her archived entries; she documented her outfits during her pregnancy and looked so chic, stylish, and beautiful! I especially love her trick of wearing jersey harem pants as maternity pants.
ReplyDeleteDanielle, the boots were $210 before tax.
Nice! I am still trying to find a pair of simple knee high boots in soft black leather that will hug my calf.
ReplyDeleteNice boots! It feels pretty satisfying I imagine that moment when you finally find what you're looking for. :)
ReplyDeletethose boots will come in handy where you live. loves it.
ReplyDeleteI would have to add boots, but I just found a really great pair yesterday! Vegan, knee-high, with lots of fun buckles. The real miracle is that they fit over my calves when I wear pants. That almost never happens.
ReplyDeleteYours are super cute! Enjoy them kicking through leafpiles this weekend!
Ooh, waterproof yet tres chic - magnifique find, darling!
ReplyDeleteIt may sound strange, but my current holy grail item is the perfect knit hat. There was one at Free People, but I waited too long, and it sold out. I've been kicking myself over the loss for the past four days. :(
