Product Review: Kiss Me Mascara

Although I tend to stick to tried and true beauty products, I can be a fickle girl when it comes to mascara. Mascaras only last for about 3 months until they have to be thrown out for sanitary reasons anyway, which provides the perfect built-in reason to try a new brand every time I buy. I've been unfailingly loyal to Cover Girl Lash Blast for the past 6 months, but when my last tube reached its expiration date, I reached for the Kiss Me Mascara sample that I got from Wink Beauty Lounge to tide me over.

Kiss Me promises to form smudgeproof, stay-put tubes around your own lashes to make them look longer and fuller; essentially, it will give you the look of lash extensions without having to go to the salon. The tubes stay put all day until you use warm water and gentle pressure to take them off. I've tried tube-forming mascara before and was unimpressed with the two-step process and how quickly the formula dried out, forcing me to throw it out after only a week.

Kiss Me lives up to most of its claims. The mascara did indeed form tubes around my lashes that slid off easily as soon as I pressed a washcloth soaked in water to my lash line for a few seconds. I liked the fact that it was a one-step application process and the formula didn't dry out in the tube. My lashes looked longer and more fluttery when I used it--in fact, they were so long I could feel them graze the lenses of my sunglasses when I blinked!

The downside? Kiss Me didn't fulfill its 100% smudgeproof promises. Little black lines of dye would wick away from my lashes onto the undereye area and I found myself checking for minute smudges throughout the day. The brush applicator rarely clumped, but when it did, the quick-drying tubes made clumps difficult to comb out. The high price tag (about $24-30) is a bit off-putting as well considering what a short shelf life mascara has. Overall, though, I give a thumbs-up to this product and definitely recommend trying it if you have the chance!

  3. melissa reviewed this and i'll say it again, i did not like this one at all. i put on a couple coats (damn short asian lashes!) and it was impossible to do that once it dried becuase i ended up with lots of clumps, which, like you said, are impossible to comb out. and really, that's the only downside of it. but for me, it kind of defeats the purpose of why i wear mascara in the first place. but i know ashley liked it.

  4. I like trying out new brands too, sometimes they can be a pleasant surprise. I have super short eyelashes, so the mascara that can make them look va va voom will be fantastic.

  6. yea i've heard some good stuff about this. one of my friend's got it for my friend's birthday one year.
: ) hmm $30.. if it looks like false lashes.. maaaybe. otherwise i'll stick with maybelline or l'oreal.

  7. I'm bad - I use my mascara until it starts to dry up or clump, which is usually around the 5/6 month mark.

Hmm, I've never heard of this brand. May give it a try in the future. I just tried out Bare Escentuals' new mascara (I think it's called Flawless Definition?) and though it took a while to get used to the tiny brush, I like it a lot. It's not 100% smudge-proof (and not waterproof) but I only get smudges if I rub my eyes.

  8. Why am I not surprised you're not just a Maybelline Great Lash gal?

That smudge-proof thing is a challenging one, isn't it? I still need to try out that eyeliner you recommended simply for that reason.

  11. Thanks for the review. I feel like Kiss Me products aren't easy to find in the U.S., but maybe that's because I haven't really looked into it.

  13. I think finding the perfect mascara is a bit tricky... I've found that using waterproof mascara works best for me (no smudges, long-lasting and they also hold a curl better if you're using an eyelash curler). I've never heard of this brand, but if they did a waterproof version, it might be a better option. I tend to stick to the Maybelline/Cover Girl group when it comes to Mascara stuff though. I can't be bothered spending on something I'll throw out in a few months!

Hope you had a terrific weekend by the way :)

  14. I don't think I could ever justify paying that much for a mascara, period! And even if I wanted my lashes to look like they had extensions, I'd probably go for the real thing and go to Noir :) Lash Blast is also one of my favorites though.. it's awesome!
