The polar vortex may be lifting, but that doesn't mean Old Man Winter is done with us quite yet. Months on end of cold, harsh air outside and being blasted by indoor heating can result in dry skin and brittle locks. My strategy: lots of fluids; gentle cleansers, shower gels, and shampoos that don't strip away moisture; and ultra-hydrating products that rely on potent natural ingredients to do the heavy lifting. Longtime readers will recognize these moisturizing MVPs from previous posts, but they're definitely worth revisiting at this time of year.
1. Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado ($35-56; previously reviewed here)
2. Korres Milk Proteins Foaming Face Cleanser ($26; previously reviewed here)
3. Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate ($48-70; previously featured here and also available in a limited edition benefiting the Keep A Child Alive Foundation)
4. Jurlique Rose Hand Cream ($29). Probably my favourite hand cream in a while. Just a dab of this rich, rose-scented, rich formula awakens the senses and softens hands for hours. Paraben-free and chock full of natural extracts.
5. Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque ($36 at BeautyMark; previously reviewed here)
6. Lippy Girl Lip Love Conditioning Stick ($8). A basic, no-nonsense but oh-so-hydrating lip balm with refreshing mint and eucalyptus and an all-natural formula. What's more, Lippy Girl founder Darcey Diehl is a local girl; read my interview with her to find out more about this vegocentric, all-natural line.
7. LUSH It's Raining Men Shower Gel ($9.95-28.95; previously featured here)
8. LUSH Fair Trade Honey Shampoo ($9.95-29.95; previously featured here)
9. Live Clean Exotic Nectar Replenishing Lotion (under $10 at Price Smart and Save On Foods). I have a slight dilemma when it comes to body lotions. I don't see the sense in spending a lot of money on something I go through so quickly, so usually I get the biggest bottle possible for under $10. However, I still want something that is natural and non-toxic. Live Clean delivers the best of both worlds: a phthalate- and paraben-free formula that's 98% plant-derived and infused with argan oil and an affordable price. What's more, it really works.
